Climbing Wall and High Ropes Course Training Workshops:
The Association for Challenge Course Technology Challenge Course Standards address the technical standards for challenge course operations. Although ACCT has not created an accreditation or certification process as of yet, it has created a set of guidelines to serve as the standard by which all challenge course instructors and operators must abide.
All climbing wall and challenge course staff should be trained in and expected to be competent in ropes course basic skills such as knot tying, belaying, managing equipment, fitting harnesses, call commands, making transfers, setting up, taking down, and deploying basic emergency procedures. In addition to these skills, challenge course facilitators will be trained in a number of specific skill areas such as managing platforms, spotting, tending the zip platform, introducing the course, checking harnesses, and other relevant functions.
Universal Ropes offers the following levels of training:
1. Belayer
2. Challenge Course Instructor/Facilitator
3. Challenge Course Advanced Instructor/Facilitator
Participating in training does not guarantee that a person will attain a certain
level of competency. The training is presented at a pace that should allow a
majority of participants enough time to practice and safely learn the information
and skills presented.
Universal Builders will provide written documentation to participants indicating completion of the course and their level attained. All staff will be encouraged to update their certificates with yearly refresher or advanced training.
